Congratulations to our 2025 Winners!
Huge congratulations to Ryde School with Upper Chine (Isle of Wight) — the overall winners of the What on Earth! National Schools Quiz 2025! After an epic final showdown, this brilliant team defended their title and claimed the trophy once again.
Ryde School with Upper Chine also took the top spot in the Senior category, with Arden Academy (West Midlands) taking second place.
Juinor Winners 2025
Huge congratulations to Knowle CE Primary Academy (West Midlands) who won the Junior category, after battling it out with Fleet Primary School (Camden, London), who came second.
Grand Live London Final
The top four schools in each category (Junior: Fleet Primary School, Knowle CE Primary Academy, Stepney Primary School, Surbiton High Girls' Prep, and Senior: Arden Academy, Bullers Wood School for Boys, Ryde School with Upper Chine, St Martins School) were invited to the in-person finals in London at Stationers’ Hall on Wednesday 26th November.

For every SLA member school that subscribes to What on Earth! Magazine and takes part, we’ll donate to the SLA. Plus, all SLA members who join the quiz – including current subscribers – will receive a free book as a thank-you!
2025 Important Info
Rules
Taking part means agreeing to all rules—failure to follow them may result in disqualification.
- Schools may enter up to two teams per age group (8–11 or 11–14, based on age at the Live Final).
- Teams must have four students.
- Only What On Earth! Magazine may be used during Heats and Finals—no other sources allowed unless approved.
- Some questions (e.g. spelling) may restrict magazine use—notice will be given.
- Only team members may answer—no help from teachers, students
or adults. - By entering, you agree that organisers may use data, images, video/audio for promotional purposes.
- Participants may be asked to complete surveys or provide quotes.
- Organisers aren’t responsible for technical issues or failed submissions.
- Any special requirements must be shared at least 7 days in advance—organisers will try to accommodate.
- Rules and details may change; organisers' decisions are final.
Timetable
- Online heats take place Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th November (exact time confirmed at registration) and last around an hour.
- Four schools from each age group (8–11 and 11–14) will be selected for the Live Finals.
- Finals will be held all day on Wednesday 26th November at Stationers’ Hall, London EC4M 7DD.
- Friends, families, and schoolmates are welcome to attend—consider naming a team reserve!
Travel Bursaries for Schools
What on Earth! Magazine wishes to remove any financial barrier that prevents a school participating in the Grand Live London Final by offering a travel bursary.
The bursary is calculated using Google Maps and is based on one way road mileage from the Finals venue to the school address:
- 0 to 50 miles £80
- 51 to 100 miles £200
- 101 to 200 miles £300
- 201 to 300 miles £400
If your travel distance is over 300 miles or if additional support is needed, then please contact john@whatonearthmag.com

By taking part in the What On Earth! National Schools Quiz, your contact details—including your name, school name, school postal address, email address, and telephone number—will be retained so we can communicate with you during the quiz, and to contact you in future years regarding the quiz and What On Earth! products.
We may ask you to complete questionnaires or surveys before or after the quiz. Any data collected will only be used to help us improve the quiz and other services in future years.
